Getting Behind the Wheel for the First Time

By Kerry
First time Driving

If you have never driven before, your first lesson will begin in a very quiet area where you can learn without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Sometimes I will drive you to a suitable location, while other times your home area may be quiet enough—it depends on where you live.

Before moving the car, I will show you how to position your seat correctly and adjust your mirrors. I will explain the vehicle’s controls, how to hold and use the steering wheel correctly, and where to place your foot when using the pedals.

We will then begin with the basics: how to move the car, stop safely, turn left and right, and position the car correctly on the road.

You are not expected to know everything straight away. My training car has dual controls, which means I can brake or accelerate if needed, and I can also help with the steering to keep us safe while you are learning.

I will teach you at the pace you need. As I see your confidence and skills improve, we will gradually move forward. If you are struggling with something, I will slow things down, explain it differently and give you more time.

These first lessons are so important because learning the basics correctly helps make every stage that follows easier. Sometimes it may take a few lessons to become comfortable with these skills—and that is completely okay.

Everyone learns at their own pace, and I will support you every step of the way.

If you are ready to get behind the wheel for the first time, you can book a lesson with me through the Elle Plate Driving School website. I look forward to helping you begin your safe road to independence 💚
